NPD has reported the sales numbers for the month of October (via Neogaf) in USA, and it was mostly good news. The Americans did spend 1% less dollars on video games than last year, but this has on the other hand been a pretty bad fall season for big games with fewer titles and plenty of delays. Hardware sales saved the day as they increased 59% year-on-year, while software sales dropped by 28%.
The best selling console was once again PlayStation 4, and posted the following on the official PlayStation account on Twitter: The results are in, and PlayStation 4 is the top-selling console in the US for October! Thank you!
Here's the video game charts, and formats are listed according to which sold the most:
1. NBA 2K15 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3, PC)
2. Super Smash Bros. for 3DS (3DS)
3. The Evil Within (PS4, Xbox One, PS3, 360, PC)
4. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (360, PS3, PC)
5. Destiny (360, Xbox One, PS4, PS3)
6. Skylanders: Trap Team (360, Wii, Wii U, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, 3DS)
7. FIFA 15 (PS4, 360, PS3, Xbox One, Wii, PS Vita, 3DS)
8. Madden NFL 15 (360, PS4, PS3, Xbox One)
9. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
10. Minecraft (360, PS3, PS4)
It's worth noting that NPD don't count officially bundled games as sold (unlike Chart Tracks British charts). That's most likely the biggest explanation to why the Xbox One version of Destiny is listed before the one for PlayStation 4, since a lot of games has been sold in a bundle. And as you can see, Sunset Overdrive was for sale for for days during this period, but a lot of people probably bought the white console and got the game bundled. Madden NFL 15 was also bundled with Xbox One (which explain its low ranking compared to other formats).
