The Internet Arcade is a collection of around 900 classic arcade games that have been made available to all thanks to a non-profit organisation called The Internet Archive. Headed up by Jason Scott, the collection includes some brilliant titles, including Street Fighter II, Pac-Man, Q*Bert and Defender.
"Of the roughly 900 arcade games (yes, nine hundred arcade games) up there, some are in pretty weird shape," Scott said. "Vector games are an issue, scaling is broken for some, and some have control mechanisms that are just not going to translate to a keyboard or even a joypad."
"But damn if so many are good enough. More than good enough. In the right browser, on a speedy machine, it almost feels perfect. The usual debates about the 'realness' of emulation come into play, but it works."
As Scott admitted, there's a few games that don't work in every browser, and Firefox is recommended by the archive's curators (for further troubleshooting, head here). To sift through the collection, and take a trip (or two) down memory lane, head this way.
