September's NPD Group report is in, and it seems PlayStation 4's unbeatable streak on the US market continues, outselling Xbox One (and Wii U) yet again.
Last week renowned analyst Michael Pachterm predicted a turnaround for Microsoft's console, as it offered Destiny for free between September 7 through 13, with the purchase of a new Xbox One at participating retailers. He was obviously mistaken. Sony has also celebrated the occasion via Twitter:
"Breaking: PS4 was September's top-selling console, leading current-gen software sales including Madden NFL 15, NHL 15 & FIFA 15. Thank you!"
Perhaps not surprising given Bungie's history in the Xbox ecosystem, the report states that Destiny, as a retail game, sold more on Xbox One than any other platform. This is excluding bundles and digital copies. According to Sony, Destiny broke several PlayStation Network sales records, helping making September 2014 the biggest month ever for PS Store revenue in the Americas.
NPD's September software Top 10:
Destiny (Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3)
Madden NFL 15 (Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, Xbox One)
FIFA 15 (PS4, Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, Wii, Vita, 3DS)
Super Smash Bros. (3DS)
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
NHL 15 (PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3)
Minecraft (Xbox 360, PS3)
The Sims 4 (PC)
Disney Infinity 2.0 (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, PS4, Xbox One)
Diablo III: Reaper of Souls (PS4, Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, PC)
This only includes sales for new retail software sales, meaning it does not take into account bundles or digital sales.
