Ahead of the release of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Sony and Microsoft are working on ways of keeping us tied into their respective eco systems. With that in mind, Activision has now promised Cross-Buy functionality for Sony's consoles, and there's a more straight-forward upgrade offer on the table for Xbox owners.

Sony's offer means that those who buy the game on PS3 will be able to upgrade it to PlayStation 4, and those who buy the PS4 version will also have the game on PlayStation 3 via Cross-Buy.

According to a post on the PlayStation Blog, the offer stands until 31 March 2015, and all those who pre-order Advanced Warfare will be able to take advantage of the deal.

The Cross-Buy promotion also includes all the DLC for the game, although there's no time limit on when players will be able to transfer this content across the generational divide. Player's stats and gear will also be transferred across.

Microsoft's counter-offer is a free upgrade from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One version of the title, in terms of both the game and any subsequent DLC (again, with no time limit on additional content).

The only catch, and this applies across both consoles, is that you're tied into buying the game digitally, just as we were with the recent upgrade deal for Activision's other big shooter franchise, Destiny.
