It's a sad day for Sega gamers as Westone, creators of the original Wonder Boy (1986), are reported to be on the verge of filing for bankruptcy. Their official site has already been closed and their Facebook page hasn't been altered in months.

It remains to be seen if Sega is willing to buy the remains of the company, or if anyone else is interested in picking up a pretty impressive library of old Japanese brands. The rights to Wonder Boy and Monster World are shared between Sega and Westone so it remains to be seen just what will happen now.

Wonder Boy was one of the most iconic games on Sega's Master System (1986).

Thanks, Sega Nerds.
