Bungie just detailed the first batch of changes coming via the 1.0.2. patch that's due to hit Destiny at some point in the coming week.

The most significant changes are coming via the Cryptarch and loot. Specifically, Legendary Engrams will now ALWAYS produce Legendary items, so that means no more cashing in your hard-earned Engrams and being disappointed with an underwhelming item.

Daily Heroics, Weekly Heroics, and Vanguard: Tiger Playlist activities will all now kick out Rare and Legendary Engrams on top of their existing rewards, and Ascendant materials have been given Legendary status to better reflect their uses in the game.

If, like us, your first thought was to save your Engrams and then cash them in next week once the patch has landed, then take heed, because the Bungie will be demoting all Legendary Engrams to Rare quality when the patch hits.

Most Destiny players will be delighted with the changes, and perhaps Bungie's decision to more clearly define the situation regarding loot and what players are likely to get from the different tiered Engrams will persuade players from seeking out loot caves and the like as they try to level up their characters.
