Bayonetta 2 was released in Japan ahead of US and Europe last Saturday. The first weekend didn't bid well for Platinum Games' highly anticipated sequel. According to the Japanese site 4gamer (via IGN) Bayonetta 2 only sold 38,828 copies during the launch week.

Part can be blamed on late Saturday launch, but the figure still feels underwhelming since original Bayonetta managed to pull 135,242 copies on its launch week. Then again the new game is Wii U exclusive compared to the original that appeared on both PS3 and Xbox 360. It will be very interesting to see if the sales will improve or the typical sales curve is true for the game.

Bayonetta 2 will launch in Europe on October 24.
