Nintendo has revealed an annual loss of ¥43.2 billion (that's £328.7 million), with sales also down 36.2% from the previous year (¥647 billion/£4.92 billion).
A strong showing from the 3DS lessened the severity of the announcement. Helped by a hefty price cut in August, the handheld sold over 13 million units in the last financial year (with software sales of 36 million). Nintendo are predicting another strong year for the device, with the company expecting to start selling it below cost in the next few months.
Nintendo is planning to further push existing titles on the handheld, and with New Super Mario Bros 2 and Animal Crossing heading to the console soon, a strong year of software sales is expected.
The Wii sold just shy of 10 million units in the last year (with software sales of 102.37 million), and the various versions of the DS shifted a combined total of 5.1 million units.
With the Wii U coming at the end of the year, and with the predicted increase in 3DS sales, Nintendo are hoping to reverse the trend set by this years financial results and return to profit in the coming year.
