Virtual reality is closer to becoming a viable platform than ever before, and according to reports, it could be with us in the first half of next year.
Sources close to Techradar have suggested that Oculus are planning on releasing the VR headset via a 'public beta' that could land as early as April of next year.
According to the site, a limited, Google Glass-style soft launch is planned for the Facebook-owned headset. April is reportedly the target, but summer remains equally likely if Oculus find they need more time. It's suggested that the company wants to gauge consumer interest before bringing it fully to market.
In recent weeks it was also confirmed that the headset will cost somewhere between $200 and $400, with the company still unsure as to which components will be used. Of course, they'll be trying to keep it as competitively priced as possible. We're also hearing that there'll be a "siginificant" improvement over the Dev Kit 2's 1080p display, with refresh rates of 90HZ or higher.
