Walt Williams, one of the key voices working behind the scenes on some of 2K's biggest games, has left the publisher after 9 years of writing across a variety of projects.
"Working at 2K has been one of the most trying, difficult, and mind-blowingly wonderful experiences of my life," Williams explained on Twitter.
"I'm not leaving games, but I am leaving AAA," he added. "Not because I don't love it -- I totally do. I just want to try something new. I'll still be working in games, but in the background. Which means there won't be a 'next game' for a while. BUT-- there will be books."
During his time with 2K, Williams was the lead writer on the thought-provoking shooter Spec Ops: The Line, as well as more recently being one many writers working on Civilization: Beyond Earth and Evolve.
Spec Ops was released in 2012, while the new Civilization game, Beyond Earth, is coming out next month. Turtle Rock's Evolve, on the other hand, is coming out in February of next year after a recently announced delay (more on that with creative director Phil Robb right here).
