According to the latest NPD results, Sony's PlayStation 4 is still the console to beat in the US after a strong month of sales in July (that's seven months at the top now). It's success across the board, with The Last of Us topping the software charts too.
During Gamescom this week, Sony's Jim Ryan confirmed that PlayStation 4 has sold 10 million units since it was launched last year. When you consider that hardware sales are roughly double what they were in the same month of last year, and the fact that life-to-date sales for both new-gen consoles are "close to 80 percent" over their predecessors, that level of success is hardly a surprise.
Hardware sales have actually doubled this month over last year's numbers, rising from $99.4 million to $198.8 million. However, software sales are actually down over last year, slipping as they did from $210.1 million to $178.2 million.
