In an interview/podcast on Joystiq, legendary developer John Romero announced that he is once again working on a shooter.
Romero, who was part of the team at id Software that made Doom, hasn't made a game in the shooter space since the release of Daikatana, some fourteen years ago.
"I'm working on several games at once right now," John Romero announced. "But [Brenda Romero] had mentioned earlier that I'm working with a concept artist, and so I've got some cool imagery for the main character."
He then confirmed the news: "I haven't made a shooter since 2000. So I'm basically starting to work on another one."
As you can imagine, the news was received positively by those in attendance. What the new shooter will be like is a different question altogether, and it's likely we're going to have to wait a while before we hear anything in that direction.
What do you think, is Romero right to return to the shooter genre? Does he have unfinished business, or do you think his best work is behind him?
