Former developers from both Vigil and then Crytek USA have put their troubled recent history behind them and have formed a new studio, Gunfire Games.

The team, who were part of the THQ family before that publisher hit the rocks and subsequently became Crytek USA, have recently left their new studio and have gone independent. The fledgling team, made up of key staffers, are looking at once again working with the Darksiders IP that helped establish them back in the day.

"At least at THQ we finished Darksiders 2. In our heads there was a Darksiders 3, and we never got to make that," Gunfire's David Adams told Polygon, before confirming that the studio are investigating the Darksiders IP.

"That is one of the options we are exploring. But we don't want to jump into something immediately. We want to weigh our options," he added before revealing that the studio are in "initial discussions with a couple of different groups," including the owners of the Darksiders IP, Nordic Games.

"We're looking at some smaller short-term deals to keep the guys working," he said. "We do want to get a solid idea of what we're going to do next so we can make an informed decision about the engine we'll be using and the size of the team.

"We have a couple of good ideas. One of them is for an original idea, one is to work on an established IP. A couple of alternatives is more about helping other projects."

Adams then explained that the studio wanted to make a new game, similar to the Vigil titles of the past: "We want to build upon what we've done on the past. Third-person, games with a lot of characters, adventure aspects, player progression, hunt cool bosses, fantastical creatures. We have some ideas kicking around."
