Following a furious battle that has dragged on for a long time - partly as a result of an improper and repeated use of Twitter (the story was told in detail in an interview with Kotaku) - Nintendo of America's head of digital content and "indie soul", Dan Adelman, was fired by the company after nine years of honourable service, as he announced on his Twitter account a few days ago.
Free from any responsibilities, Adelman hasn't spared any comments on some marketing choices made by his former bosses, in particular on Nintendo Wii U. Responding to a question on Ask.fm , Adelman said that one of Nintendo's main problems lies in the name itself, Wii U, that he found "abysmal":
"Wii U is not selling as well as it deserves to. It has a lot to offer with great games you can't get anywhere else. The value of the GamePad hasn't been justified. But the name Wii U is abysmal. I think that cut sales in half right there."
But Nintendo of America's President, Reggie Fils-Aime, doesn't agree. In fact, he has repeatedly stated that the problem of Wii U doesn't lie in the name, but in the lack of interesting software that makes unique use of the GamePad.
Maybe Nintendo's fortune could change in the upcoming months, as Bayonetta 2, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Hyrule Warriors will land on Wii U, and it could be a clue that the problem lies in this lack, indeed.
