The movie adaptation of Deep Silver and Techland's Dead Island franchise is back on by the sounds of it, after Deep Silver reportedly partnered up with Occupant Entertainment in an effort to get the project back on track.
As reported by Deadline, there's no clear concept in place (other than, presumably, zombies and sunshine), but Occupant bosses Joe Neurauter and Felipe Marino appear to be open to ideas: "We want to find the right filmmaker and present somewhat of an open canvas, to make something distinct and original that also appeals to and expands the core audience."
The rights to the film adaptation were originally optioned by Lionsgate back in 2011, but nothing came of this initial agreement. Fans of the zombie-filled series will no doubt be hoping that this isn't the case the second around.
Original Dead Island devs Techland are currently working on similarly-themed title, Dying Light, while the series proper is set to return in the form of Dead Island 2, which is in development over at Yager.
