The developers of survival-sim Rust and Garry's Mod, Facepunch Studios, have just revealed a new side-project called Deuce. As you can see from the screens below, there's a definite tennis theme to the project, with a recently posted dev blog explaining that it's "an arcade style tennis game with a focus on unique characters and courts. Imagine tennis crossed with Street Fighter."
The Street Fighter flavour comes in the form of special moves, and there's already four in the game (Ice freezes opponents, Tornado alters the direction of the ball, Teleport switches the ball's position mid-flight, Fireball has no description but seems pretty self-explanatory).
A large roster of characters is planned, and they're not going to look like traditional tennis players; "we want to build a selection of characters that could star in their own games in the future or perhaps play different sports."
As you can see from the concept art attached to the end of this piece, there's going to be a variety of non-traditional courts for games to play out on. "Like Street Fighter each character will have a matching location. I'm toying with the idea that elements in the court environment will come in to play during a match," the dev blog concludes.
No word on when this one will be with us in playable form, but updates should appear here on a fairly regular basis if you want to keep up-to-date with the development of the game.
