Developers at DICE recently professed their love for Star Wars, and they intend to create the best Star Wars game ever with the new Star Wars: Battlefont. Nevertheless, the game is a licensed title, and the release might very well coincide with the premiere of the new Star Wars VII movie:
"Obviously there will be things in there that are somewhat tied to the new movie", EA chief Patrick Söderlund said in a conference call via Seeking Alpha. "I wouldn't say that we have a particular tie to the movie. Now, obviously we would prefer to be close to the movie, but I wouldn't say that we're directly tied to it."
This leads us to believe that a simultaneous release with be beneficial mostly from a marketing perspective, as the game itself has little to do with the movie:
"What we're building is more rooted in the traditional Star Wars universe and not so much necessarily linked to the movies being made",Söderlund elaborates. "And that's just because we wanted to make a game that celebrated the history of Star Wars."
The planned premiere date for the Star Wars VII movie is the 18th of December next year, while Star Wars: Battlefront has been primed for an "early 2015" release, a date we could certainly see getting shifted to later in the year.
