It has been revealed that sales of Sony's PS Vita have hit a new low in Japan, where the handheld sold only 8,931 units (down from 12,105 the week before). Comparatively, sales for Nintendo's 3DS were strong, with their handheld shifting 72,115 units in the same week.

After an encouraging launch, the Vita has struggled to make the kind of impact Sony expected, and these latest figures (via andria sang) contribute to the precarious situation the company now finds itself if.

Sony has just revealed their intention to cut 10,000 jobs. That figure represents roughly 6% of the companies entire workforce. With the company reporting a loss of close to $6.4 billion USD for this financial year, they'll be hoping that this cost-cutting exercise will help bring the company back into profitability.
