Funcom, best known for their MMORPG's Anarchy Online and Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures as well as their adventure games such as Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, have started a subsidiary called Sweet Robot that will focus on social and casual MMO's.

The first project to come out of Sweet Robot is Pets vs. Monsters that will go into public beta testing in a month's time. It's aimed at 8 to 12 year-olds and has taken a team of 15 people two years to assemble.

"SweetRobot will be focusing on publishing games outside the traditional high-end MMO-segment which Funcom has been focusing on the last years," says Funcom CEO Trond Arne Aas. "This will allow us to explore new market opportunities that differ from what we have been doing before while still retaining Funcom's familiar profile. This definitely marks a new and exciting direction for us."

The game will use streaming technology preventing downloads and installation for easy accessibility from the official website
