343 Industries will compensate the Halo: The Master Chief Collection players who endured that game's rocky launch by adding a remastered version of Halo 3: ODST to the package for no additional cost. Now they have shown the first screenshot of this incoming update, and as expected the game looks sharper than ever.

This spin-off adventure doesn't let you play as a Spartan, but rather the player controls a regular ODST (Orbital Drop Shock Trooper). These are units with less power, strength, height and armour than their Spartan cousins. We're looking forward to revisiting the noir setting of the game, but of course this time in 1080p and 60fps.

Fans will also recall that Halo 3: ODST introduced Firefight to the world of Halo; a Gears of War: Horde inspired multiplayer mode that let you face wave after wave of increasingly powerful enemies in some surprisingly large sandbox maps.

343i are still keeping quiet on when we can expect to see the return of Halo 3: ODST, although they do mention that we'll be getting launch dates soon. They're saying "dates" because there'll be multiple releases, with the Halo 2: Anniversary map Relic (pictured below) also coming to fans by way of compensation.

The studio also confirmed another multiplayer update for Halo: MCC is coming in April, which should further improve the online experience following on from the most recent game-fixing patch that finally has the multiplayer side of collection running at something approaching full speed.
