American retail giant GameStop has inadvertently revealed that they do not intend on making a move to buy up struggling UK retail group GAME.

Talking to investors following the release of recent financial results, GameStop's VP Mike Mauler said: "Having closed all of our UK stores, we are focused entirely on competing digitally in the UK."

MCV reported that Mauler didn't rule out a move completely, adding that GameStop would "continue to evaluate the market and opportunities".

It was thought likely that GameStop were going to move for GAME's Spanish and Portuguese operations, and despite this latest revelation there are many who still believe they will come to some sort of agreement with The GAME Group, for at least some part of the UK retailers portfolio of international assets.

Either way, time is running out for GAME as they look to secure some major investment in the coming days. If GameStop aren't interested, it could prove to be a decisive blow for GAME. They'll be hoping that some sort of deal will be arranged, and sooner rather than later, or the consequences will be severe for the struggling retailer.
