During an interview with Polygon, President of Nintendo of America - Reggie Fils-Aime - talked about the future of Nintendo Wii U, focusing on the upcoming Amiibo, Skylanders-like figurines that will debut on Nintendo's dual-screen console in the coming months.
According Fils-Aime, the first ten figures will be released during the next holiday season, and among the characters we'll see some of the most iconic Nintendo's characters, like Pikachu and Mario. But, more importantly, Fils-Aime thinks that Amiibo will represent a significant change for Wii U, one that can impact in a positive way on the console's sales:
"I think Amiibo can have a significant impact on driving the install base for Wii U on the sales of figures themselves," he said. "I think this could be a significant business opportunity."
There's no doubt that it's going to be a significant business opportunity, as Amiibo will be functional in many upcoming titles, including Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Mario Kart 8 and Yoshi's Wooly World.
