Fire sale kicks off fightback.

Reports are surfacing that senior managers at The GAME Group have been told that administration is a very real possibility for the company.

According to a report on MCV, in a meeting with CEO Ian Shepherd earlier this week, the company's senior management was told that "the chain has approximately two weeks to turn its fortunes around."

The immediate impact of this revelation would appear to be the Spring Clean sale currently now on in GAME stores (Gamestation are running a very similar promotion), with prices on second-hand stock dropping dramatically. GAME will be hoping a quick injection of cash from this fire sale will be enough to keep the wolf from the door, for now.

There is the very real possibility of an approach for the struggling retailer, with American chain GameStop poised to offer some kind of deal. Whether it would be for the entire company, or just some of GAME's overseas assets (yesterday speculation was focused around a possible move for the company's Spanish and Portuguese stores), it remains unclear.

What is clear is that the situation The GAME Group now finds itself in is fast approaching a resolution. Just what that resolution will be remains to be seen.
