According to Japanese newspaper Nikkei Business Daily (via MCV), Sony is back at the top of the charts when it comes to best-selling consoles, after eight years away from the top spot.

As the newspaper reported, in the last 12 months Sony's hardware (PS3, PS4, PS Vita, PSP and PS2) has sold 18.7 million units in total, beating the competition. Nintendo (Wii, Wii U, 3DS, 2DS, 3DS XL, DS, DSi, DS Lite and DS XL) sold 16.31 million units, while Microsoft's consoles (Xbox One and Xbox 360) sold 11.6 million units in total.

The good news for Sony is that their biggest seller is PS4, which since its launch in November (and until April) has sold 7 million units.
