Cloud gaming service Gaikai has today announced an agreement with troubled retailer GAME that will see live streaming arrive on the company's website.
According to a joint statement, the new service "forms a significant part of GAME's strategy to grow revenues from its web and digital business."
Customers will be able to ‘try before they buy', by downloading demos of new releases when the new service goes online sometime in spring 2012.
Robert Stevenson, EVP at Gaikai, said: "We are extremely pleased to be working with GAME across Europe to help them expand their digital presence and engagement with online consumers by streaming Gaikai's portfolio of high quality content. As gamers continue to increase their digital consumption of the industry's best games, GAME will be well positioned to lead the way."
"Gaikai's ground-breaking game streaming technology fits in well with our strategy of delivering the very best range of games and gaming products to our customers," said Ian Shepherd, GAME CEO. "We are thrilled to offer our consumers the ability to instantly preview game titles right at that critical moment of the purchase decision making and checkout process."
This news will be a welcome break from recent events for the retailer. After failing to secure terms with EA, Mass Effect 3 will be absent from GAME stores when it is released. This significant blow for the company has some analysts predicting that the eventual cost of not stocking ME3 may reach as high as £2.5 million.
