Adhesive Games and Meteor Entertainment have raised $10 million USD for their new PC title, the exciting looking online mech-combat game, Hawken.
In a report on Venture Beat it was revealed that the funds have been raised by approaching the venture capitalists who invested in Riot Games, the developers behind the hugely successful DotA inspired League of Legends.
Benchmark Capital and FirstMark Capital were obviously impressed with what they saw in the futuristic free-to-play shooter; their investment was a substantial one.
This method of investment couldn't be further from the potential revenue stream made popular by Double Fine Adventure's successful Kickstarter fund. Whilst 'crowd-funding' offers independent and innovative developers a chance to seek out public investment, it is clear that considerable influence still rests in the hands of investors and publishers.
The game is currently in beta, so if the idea of running around a futuristic battlefield in a giant mech-suit appeals, you can sign up here.
