It has been announced that as of March 1, Gameplay.co.uk will merge with Gamestation.co.uk, in a move that should allow The GAME Group to focus on their more popular brands.

In a posting on Gameplay.co.uk it was revealed that pre-orders placed with the company will be dispatched as normal (as long as they're games that are to be released before April 30). They also thanked their customers for shopping with them.

It has also been revealed by MCV that GAME has already notified as many as 35 stores that they will be closed down. These closures are part of long-term planning for the company, as they seek to reduce their presence on the high street from 610 outlets down to 550 by December 2013.

The closure of Gameplay.co.uk and the confirmation that 35 stores are soon to be shut down comes after a very difficult week for the retailer. They recently failed to stock any of Ubisoft's launch titles for PS Vita and pre-orders for The Last Story were refunded after GAME revealed that they wouldn't be stocking the game, either online or in-store.
