Pope Leo XIV has urged world leaders to seek a swift end to the war involving the United States, Israel and Iran, expressing hope that the conflict could be resolved before Easter.

Speaking during Holy Week from Castel Gandolfo, the pontiff called on Donald Trump to look for an "off-ramp" to reduce violence and move toward a negotiated settlement.

"I'm told that President Trump has recently stated that he would like to end the war. Hopefully he's looking for an off-ramp. There have been so many deaths, including innocent children. Let's continually appeal for peace. There are too many people who promote fighting, violence (and) war."

His comments mark a rare direct appeal to a specific political leader, reflecting increasing concern from the Vatican as the conflict continues to expand across the Middle East. Leo has also criticised the use of religion to justify war, insisting that faith should not be invoked to support violence.
