Brazilian giant Flamengo enjoyed last season their best in history, winning five titles including the Brasileirão and the Copa Libertadores, although they fell (in penalties) to Paris Saint-Germain in the Intercontinental Cup. However, Filipe Luís, the manager that led the team from Rio de Janeiro since 2024, has been fired.

The club announced it on Tuesday, shockingly, after a 8-0 victory over Madureira in Taça Guanabara, a cup between teams from Rio de Janeiro. But in other competitions, Flamengo has had worse results, including losing to Lanús in Recopa, and their worst league start in the last ten years: five defeats in the first 12 matches of the season.

Filipe Luís, aged 40, retired from football in 2023, after playing a big part of his career at Atlético de Madrid and Chelsea, ending his career in Flamengo. Will he make a trip back to Europe as a manager?
