France will expand its nuclear arsenal and deepen cooperation with Germany, Poland, Greece, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Sweden, President Emmanuel Macron announced on Monday. Speaking from a submarine base in Brittany, Macron outlined a new "forward deterrence" doctrine that could see French strategic air forces deployed deeper into Europe.

Macron said decisions over nuclear strikes would remain solely with the French president but confirmed that France would increase its stockpile beyond its current estimated 290 warheads. He added that coordination would remain transparent with NATO partners and complementary to the alliance's nuclear mission, as European countries reassess their security posture...

As he stated today on X:

Let us be strong. Let us be united. Let us be free.

We must rethink our deterrence strategy in the heart of the European continent, in full respect of our sovereignty, with the gradual establishment of what I will call an advanced deterrence.
