The Eternal Life of Goldman is expected to be 12-16 hours long

That's lengthy for a platformer of this type.

The Eternal Life of Goldman continues to draw eyes thanks to its striking hand-drawn visual design, but according to our most recent preview, it's also a platformer, and not one for the faint of heart.

That counts for both difficulty, and for game length, where developer Weappy expects a traditional playthrough to be between 12 and 16 hours, far longer than many comparable games in that space. In our exclusive interview, producer Andreas Schmiedecker said the following:

"There is a bit of a range here, considering different playstyles (looking at notes, finding secrets, reading all dialogues), but a playthrough will probably take between 12 and 16 hours. The game isn't really designed for many playthroughs, it's a fairly directed experience with a complete, self-contained story. That said, some of the secrets, including optional areas, require a bit of ingenuity and fairly elaborate sequences of actions to unlock. So for those who choose to replay the game and explore it 100%, there will definitely be things to discover."

In addition, the level of challenge which we experienced during the recent Steam Next Fest demo is very intentional, and therefore, currently, the game has one central difficulty setting designed to provide an optimal and, yes, challenging experience:

"We're currently aiming at one balanced mode but we're also actively taking in player feedback about the difficulty from the demo and will take a decision for the full game."
