When you read something like the Stop Killing Games Initiative, you may wonder who on Earth is still spending time on games that have long passed their prime and some that are even shut down. Passionate fans is your answer. People who keep a game going purely out of love and persistence, just like the community still keeping Star Wars Galaxies alive more than 15 years since it shut down.

As caught by PCGamer, Star Wars Galaxies recently got a huge update, bringing an entire civil war's worth of content to the MMO. The Shatterpoint update delivers a new, cyclical event that sees the Empire and the Rebellion vie for control of the galaxy. They'll fight for control of seven planets, gaining that control when they get a million control points.

You don't have to fight on the front lines if that's not how you've built your character, and players can engage in espionage, as well as become a mercenary to help out whoever isn't winning their battle at any given point. The Shatterpoint content is designed to repeat, as is the other new bit of content, Flashpoint.

Flashpoint involves random PvP battles taking place across the game's world, fought as part of the conflict between the Empire and the Rebellion. Put it all together, and you get a boat load of content that any game released today would be proud to have put out. Star Wars Galaxies fans are just built different, I guess.
