Manchester United has changed manager again, with Michael Carrick being chosen as caretaker head coach until the end of the season. He takes the role of Darren Fletcher, who took the job after the sacking of Rúben Amorim for only two games (one Premier League draw and the defeat to Brighton in the FA Cup).

Carrick, 44, will be assisted Steve Holland (former England number two). He has already worked as Manchester United manager for three games in 2021, two victories and one draw, when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was dismissed; he returned to being an assistant manager when Ralf Rangnick was appointed.

Carrick has worked as assistant manager for Manchester United since his retirement from football in 2018. In 2022, he joined Middlesborough, and was fired in June 2025 after they finished tenth in Championship.

As a player, he started in 1999 for West Ham United as defensive midfielder, but spent most of his career at Manchester United, between 1999 and 2019. He also made 34 appearances for England.

Initially, Michael Carrick will only hold this role until the end of the season. Do you think Michael Carrick will do a good job at the helm of the disastrous Manchester United?
