[Update 11:39 BST/12:39 CEST]: Amazon has found the cause and service is gradually being restored
It seems that the DNS error that caused the global downtime of Amazon Web Services this morning has been located and corrected, although many of the peripheral services are still giving errors when making requests. Amazon has just published a statement updating the status of the error and its AWS services still affected:
"The underlying DNS issue has been fully mitigated, and most AWS Service operations are succeeding normally now. Some requests may be throttled while we work toward full resolution. Additionally, some services are continuing to work through a backlog of events such as Cloudtrail and Lambda. While most operations are recovered, requests to launch new EC2 instances (or services that launch EC2 instances such as ECS) in the US-EAST-1 Region are still experiencing increased error rates. We continue to work toward full resolution. If you are still experiencing an issue resolving the DynamoDB service endpoints in US-EAST-1, we recommend flushing your DNS caches. We will provide an update by 4:15 AM PDT (12:15 BST/13:15 CEST), or sooner if we have additional information to share."

The Amazon Web Services outage has also been the downfall of many services that banks outsource to third parties. In the last hour you may have experienced problems paying or charging with POS devices, NFC and contactless payments, and even Bizum, and that's because some of the providers, such as Vercel, have been affected by the AWS outage.
Canva and Epic Games Store are also reported to be down. We will continue to update information and service status periodically until the service is back to normal.

During the last hour, there have been reports of errors and failures in Amazon Web Services servers, leaving all its services and hosting paralysed around the world. AWS is one of the largest providers of servers on the internet along with Azure, so many infrastructures and web services are being affected. Apparently, it all started when reports came in about errors on servers hosted in the US-East-1 region.
Right now it is impossible to access Amazon services in the United States, as well as the streaming platforms Crunchyroll or Prime Video, or social networks such as Goodreads or Snapchat. Video games such as Fortnite or Roblox are also unable to provide services there, although work is underway to restore service.
In Europe, Amazon's website continues to function normally, but some services such as Prime Video give Error 5004 when you try to play content. We will continue to monitor information on this AWS failure worldwide until services are restored.
