Sony have released their latest financial report, and it makes for depressing reading. The company as a whole made an operating loss for the most recent quarter of $2.1 billion (compared to a profit of $950 million for the same period last year.
Part of the blame for the results were put on lower than expected revenue from Playstation 3 (due to the lowered price back in August), but others reasons included detoriating market conditions in developed countries, floods in Thailand, and a decline in LCD television sales.
Sony sold 6.5 million Playstation 3 units during the quarter (less than Microsoft's reported number of 8.2 million recently), and in total 62 million Playstation 3 consoles have been sold worldwide.
In addition to this 2.4 million PSP's and 900,000 Playstation 2 consoles were sold. No numbers for PS Vita as it was only available a few days in Japan during the quarter.
