THQ has announced its updated business strategy; revealing there intention to focus more on their core video games franchises at the expense of kid-friendly gaming licences.
After a difficult year, things were looking very uncertain for the publisher, despite the success of the excellent Saints Row: The Third. Brian Farrell, President and CEO of THQ, said in a statement: "THQ will be a more streamlined organization focused only on our strongest franchises. The success of Saints Row: The Third is an example of what our revised strategy and focus can achieve. We have now shipped 3.8 million units globally and are currently expecting to ship between five and six million units lifetime on this title."
He then added: "Additionally, our robust digital content offerings for this game have resulted in the highest digital revenue of any console title in our history."
There are plenty of titles still in development, including UFC Undisputed 3 and Darksiders II, so the future looks less bleak for the publisher.
As part of the new strategy, THQ will exit from their existing relationships with various entertainment licensing companies, but the company has said that they will continue to sell certain previously released titles.
