France's national football team manager, Didier Deschamps, has referred to the controversial absence of Kylian Mbappé's from this week's UEFA Nations League matches. French media have lashed out against Mbappé, something more and more frequent recenty, while Deschamps tried to soothe the situation and partially defend the player.

"If he was where he was, it's because there was no obligation in place from his club", he said in a press conference, referring to a photo in which he is seen, with a mask covering his face, apparently going partying in Stockholm during the week he could have been with his national team.

"I'm also ready to understand different situations. Is it good, is it bad? It may be good for some and bad for others, but it's not like we must search the bad everywhere", Deschamps said. "Without intention of defending him just for the sake of it, it is his private life. The problem is that his private life isn't private, as we all know where he is".

Mbappé reportedly wants to cut off from unimportant matches with France

French outlets like L'Equippe have criticised Mbappé's apparent lack of compromise with his national team, that adds to a poor performance in last summer's Euros.

His teammates defend him, but according to French outlet Footmercato, Mbappé had told France's National Team that he only intends to play the important matches, in order to minimise his chances of injuries that could stop his season at Real Madrid and France, something that has already happened to his Madrid's colleague Dani Carvajal and Manchester City's Rodrigo Hernández, who won't play for many months.
