Global Gaming Factory X have entered into agreement with the owners of The Pirate Bay to buy domain and associated sites for 7.8 million USD. Global Gaming Factory plans to retool The Pirate Bay in a way that both users and right holders will make money through the Pirate Bay. The move has been dubbed the new "Napster", and there is a lot of uncertainty as to what will happen.
Eventhough the brand is strong amongst people who choose to download illegally it is hard to see any real value in the brand if users had to pay to download said content. It would definitively seem an end of an era, but the phenomenon is hardly going anywhere.
