According to reports coming from Inside Mobile App, Microsoft will abandon their virtual currency system, Microsoft Points, by the end of the year.

Instead of buying Microsoft Points to spend on games and downloads, customers will, according to the reports, be able to use real money when purchasing content on Xbox Live, Zune Marketplace and Windows Phone.

This move will bring the company inline with their main competitors; Apple, Android and Sony all deal with real money transactions. If the reports are true, then expect the new system to be in place next year.

Microsoft declined to comment, other than to say: "we do not comment on rumours or speculation."
