As Guru3D were testing Bluebyte's Anno 2070 on three of their test computers they ran into some issues with the DRM. The DRM allows for activation on three different computers, and so far everything was working. However, as Guru3D switched graphics cards on one of the test rigs, the DRM asked for another authorisation and with the activation code already used three times if simply refused to be reasoned with.
Obviously, having a DRM system that does not allow for hardware updates is not acceptable as hardcore gamers give their systems a tune up every so often and expect to be able to keep on playing the games they have bought and paid for. Ubisoft have issued no statement on the matter, but developers Bluebyte came to the rescue of Guru3D and unlock their codes so it can be used to test the various system the site wanted to try out.
This isn't likely to be the last piece of news we're writing about unfair and punishing DRM systems, but hopefully this kind of system can be avoided in the future. As for now, you may want to opt out of buying Anno 2070 if you know you're going to want to upgrade your hardware frequently.
