VG247 reports that the upcoming PS Vita launch title Modnation Racers: Road Trip will not be featuring head-to-head online multiplayer. The game will feature ad-hoc (local network) head-to-head racing, and there will asynchronous multiplayer (like in Trackmania) where you race the same tracks as your friends trying to better their times.
