It's already a well-known secret that a new Mortal Kombat game is about to be announced. And after some teasing and clues by Netherrealm Studio's head Ed Boon, it looks like the time has come for the the official unveil, just one week prior to E3.

According to MK co-creator's Twitter account, Mortal Kombat X announcement will happen today at 14:00 BST / 15:00 CEST:

"Yads ereht tiegh ma eb ot cseirep #WHOSNEXT"

Well, if that looks a bit too cryptic for you, try this one instead:

"What time zone we talkin for that 8am EB? EB: Chicago time! CST!"

Some speculated this new fighting game could actually be a new 'cross' or 'vs' title, by clashing two IPs or universes a la Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe -hence the 'X'-, but it sounds more like the next proper entry on the biggest non-Japanese franchise in the genre.

And for those expecting a true 'next-gen' Mortal Kombat, it seems clear that this game will have PS4 and Xbox One versions, but according to Amazon UK (see attached image, listing now deleted), Mortal Kombat X would also come to PS3 and Xbox 360. Would this cross-gen development affect the most modern game? Is the same team behind both versions? We'll know in a matter of hours, supposedly. Finally, the PC listing is surprising given the time it took for Injustice: Gods Among Us to launch on the platform, and there's no Wii U version listed at the moment, so perhaps that's not happening.
