It appears that Microsoft's decision to the remove the Kinect from the basic Xbox One package is already proving to be the correct one. According to retailer GameStop, there's a "stronger demand" for the console now there's no camera and from the resulting price cut.
"I definitely think we're already seeing in our stores [that] there's a stronger demand as a result of the price drop," GameStop president Tony Bartel told IGN. "The good news for us is... we'll sell a lot more units. And that means there will be more [Xbox One] units out there to put software on."
According to Microsoft, despite cutting the Kinect from the retail edition of the Xbox One, the camera remains part of their vision for the console.
"To be clear, as we introduce this new Xbox One console option, Kinect remains an important part of our vision. Many of you are using Kinect for Xbox One every day. In fact, more than 80 percent of you are actively using Kinect, with an average of 120 voice commands per month on each console," said Xbox boss Phil Spencer earlier this month.
The new version of the console will be available to buy from retailers from June 9, and it will cost £349.99 (in Europe it'll be €399.99).
