Sony CEO Kaz Hirai has stated his belief that PlayStation 4 will become even more profitable than PlayStation 2, and given the popularity of that console, that's confident talk (155 million units were sold over 12 years).

"It is likely that PS4 will become the platform which exceeds the profits earned with PS2," Hirai told investors (via ImpressWatch).

That might not be an insurmountable challenge as Sony has already managed to achieve a profit on every PS4 sold, in just six months.

According to Sony (and via an investor's call) over half of the PS4's current install base (that's 7 million and counting) has signed up to PS Plus, helping the platform holder turn to profitability faster than ever before (PS3, for example, was still being sold as a loss leader as late as 2009).
