There's been a bit of a hoo-ha surrounding the cover art of Far Cry 4, with some people reacting to the imagery by suggesting that it may be racist, with a seemingly white character sitting above a submissive, darker-skinned man.

The game's creative director, Alex Hutchinson, has since moved to clarify the picture, explaining that it isn't racist. Hutchinson Tweeted: "Just so it's clear for those jumping to conclusions: He's not white and that's not the player."

A few plot details that were accidentally posted on Uplay (but have since been removed - you can still see a cached version here) may explain the matter:

Hidden in the majestic Himalayas lies Kyrat, a country steeped in tradition and violence. You are Ajay Ghale. Traveling to Kyrat to fulfill your mother's dying wish, you find yourself caught up in a civil war to overthrow the oppressive regime of dictator Pagan Min.

Explore and navigate this vast open world, where danger and unpredictability lurk around every corner. Here, every decision counts, and every second is a story. Welcome to Kyrat.

Obviously we don't get too much in the way of detail, but we can now assume that Pagan Min is the figure with blond hair that is adorning the cover art, though we've still no idea who his companion is.

Far Cry 4 is heading to PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on November 21.
