The floodgates have opened.

Gamasutra reports on a subject that is likely to be a big talking point among game developers over the next while. Valve's Steam service has seen an increase in the number of games released through the service over the last few years, with a whoppping 600 titles released in 2013. But so far in 2014 that number has already been topped, and currently new releases are rolling off the "new releases" tab on the store front in just a day. It's difficult to be heard through the noise and many devs express concern that Steam could end up much like AppStore where the struggle for visibility is brutal.

Other stores like Humble Store and GOG.com are taking a more curated approach, picking its releases, while Steam have plans to open things up even more in the future. Remains to be seen what kind of longterm effects this has.
