Lionsgate (The Hunger Games), is getting into gaming, and Peter Levin is heading up the film studio's new games division.

Levin, co-founder and CEO of Nerdist Industries, has worked for/with Rovio and Walt Disney (amongst others). He's being tasked with leading the studio's expansion in this new direction, and obviously there'll be plenty of cinematic IP for he and his team to work with.

"Peter is a perfect fit for our entrepreneurial culture, and he is ideally qualified to lead the continued growth of our content business into the video game space and other interactive digital ventures," said Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer in statement (via GI.biz).

"Gaming has become one of the most explosive growth areas of the content business, and Peter's mandate will be to build a portfolio of premium digital properties as we expand our leadership in films and television programming into digital content as well."

Let's hope that this means original games and interesting projects, rather than a succession of cheap movie tie-in projects. Only time will tell.
