8% drop in Japanese market.

Software is down, hardware is up.

There has been a significant slump in software sales in Japan over the last year (27/12/10 to 25/12/11). The software industry saw a drop in sales of 14%. Hardware sales were up, but they were not enough to stop an 8% drop in total revenues.

Famitsu's Enterbrain published the statistics, which were in turn translated by andriasang, and they make for interesting reading.

Nintendo's 3DS dominated hardware sales, and Mario takes first and second in the software charts, rounding off what will be pleasing year for Nintendo.
