Japanese publisher Kadokawa Shoten has acquired the Dark Souls II developer, From Software, adding to their portfolio of companies. Kadokawa is best known for their manga IPs, although in recent years they've branched out into video game publishing.

According to a press release, the plan over at Kadokawa is to expand both their and From Software's business and marketing position, utilising the two companies respective areas of expertise. The creation of new IP is also mentioned in the announcement (we'll update with the full press release should we get our hands on it).

What this move will mean in the longterm remains to be seen. Will Kadokawa move into publishing in western territories, or will they continue to enlist the aid of companies (such as Bandai Namco, who published Dark Souls II) and focus on their home market instead? Time will tell.
