Japanese magazine Nikkei Trendy has kick started speculation over the possible 2012 release of the Nintendo 3DS Lite.
The magazine, as interpreted by Kotaku, speculates that: "To increase the 3DS's install base, there's a possibility for a lighter version that addresses the handheld's weak points, the thickness and the battery life."
The magazine also speculates a time, the header for the article is "spring". Their thinking is not unreasonable, with the DS released in 2004 and the DS Lite following less than two years later, it's not out of the realms of possibility that Nintendo will pull the same trick here.
The question is; if Nintendo were to bring out a new 3DS, would anybody bother with the upgrade?
